Leaders of the Pack

The girls’ soccer soccer coach, Ms. Fagan,  recently announced the captains for the 2012 soccer season. Olga R., Brennan B., and Megan C. were nominated and voted in by their teammates to lead them on the field. The girls hope to continue the strong tradition of Northwood soccer as they kick off with their first game today. Congratulations!

Huskies Show Their Hard Work

With almost three months away from school and hockey season still five months away, one could have the tendency to slack off during the summer and just do the bare minimum. The ladies on the Northwood Girls’ Hockey team showed that they do anything but the bare minimum. On a blustery, but warm day, the girls took on the challenge of the pre-season fitness test. First, was the 1.5 mile run. Serena M. set the pace with a quick 10:13 time, a personal best for her. Most improved was Hailey S. who took almost a full minute off of her spring time. Newcomer Sophie G. finished fifth overall and first for new students. In the 300 yard shuttle, Serena and Cailey H. showed that they were the quickest with times of 1:02, a new school record for the girls. Most improved was Jess B. and Brennan B. who each shaved five seconds off both of their attempts. Eva M. and Lindsay P. set the bar high for themselves as new students, with personal bests of 1:05 and 1:08 respectively. The push-up event was led by Hailey S. (see video above) who pounded out 60 push-ups, 19 more than she had done in the spring. Monica M. also improved her push-ups considerably over the summer, getting to 25 solid ones. Maci H. earned some extra respect and admiration as she succeeded in completing 21 military style push-ups.

After the grueling testing, the girls went out to the field and competed in two-hand touch football to cool down and have a little fun. They were then treated to a team meal at Cassie K’s house. Mrs. K cooked up delicious pasta, garlic bread, and salad to help the girls replenish.

Of course, no team meal would be complete without a little healthy competition. See the video below!

As the leaves have already begun to change here in Lake Placid, students have arrived on campus this Labor Day weekend.  The first days are filled with student orientation where they all, new and old, partake in activities and informational meetings. During the first all school meeting, some returning students showed great leadership as they spoke in front of students and faculty on the school’s core values. Serena M. spoke of Respect, Nicole G. spoke of Integrity, and Jess B. spoke of Courage. The new additions to the team this year are assimilating nicely and everyone is all  smiles.  Classes begin tomorrow after the annual all school meeting Convocation.
