New Beginnings

Northwood School welcomed students back to campus on an unusually warm September weekend. On Thursday, returning student leaders arrived, moved in, and got right to work helping to plan the new and returning student orientation. Then, the familiar Wade charter bus pulled in with a majority of International Students fresh from Albany airport. Finally, on Saturday evening, all 170 students and more than 40 faculty converged in the auditorium to begin a new year.

There are many changes to this year’s orientation, most of them stemming from student input and initiatives. Returning students and new students are separated for the ‘nuts and bolts’ meetings with returning students getting refresher courses and new students having more in depth discussions. Also new to this year is the addition of “houses” – a Harry Potter type of grouping of students to build camaraderie through healthy competition. These competitions include selfie scavenger hunts, ultimate frisbee and a talent show. Check out #NSelfieHunt on Instagram to see pictures from the scavenger hunt and Northwood Talent Show to watch the talent show.

As the new school year begins, those of us at Northwood will use the opportunity to set new goals, take new adventures, and meet new people. Some of our trials will succeed, some will fail – but we’ll all be learning throughout this new school year!
